NEWTOWN UNITED FC
With the 1st teams match against Shillelagh called off it was left to the 2nd team to fly the flag. They travelled away to play Glencormac United and despite some good displays from some players they came out on the wrong end of a 2-0 scoreline.

The Under 12’s girl’s team finished their season in defeat at the hands of Broadford Rovers last Wednesday evening. Despite some good individual performances on the night, the team display wasn’t up to the usual standard.
On the night the star players were, Rose Fagan, Lydia Sinnott- Elliott and Amber Jenkinson. The team has made steady progress this year and look like finishing 4th in the league as well as reaching the semi finals of the DWSL Cup.
Most of the girls will now head off to their teams in the WDSL and will also be back in their FAI winter training camp in the coming weeks. Well done girls on a very enjoyable season.
Newtown’s Senior Championship campaign came to an end in Aughrim on Sunday, when, after a great match, they just ran out of steam against former champions Rathnew.
Newtown got off to a flying start with three unanswered points, and having dominated the first half, led 005 to 0-03 at half time. Rathnew got the first point of the second half, but then Newtown got back into their stride and held off Rathnew until the 17th minute when Rathnew drew level at 0-07 each.
From then on Rathnew began to get on top, and a goal settled Newtown’s fate. However, the men in black and white can be proud of this performance, and for a long time it looked as if an upset was on the cards, but Rathnew’s long championship experience told in the end. The final score was 112 to 0-09.
Newtown are still very much in contention for league honours and will get another tilt at Rathnew in the league when the sides meet in Newtown. Newtown scores came from Garrett Doyle and Dean Odlum 0-03 each, Paudie Doyle 0-02, John Heffernan 001.
Newtown’s loyal band of supporters get another chance to don their black and white gear and head to Newcastle on Tuesday evening as the Junior B side take on Ashford in the Championship.

Congratulations to Janet Nolan, Gemma Kiely and Veronica O’Toole, now playing with Eire Og, who have reached the ladies county final.
