ST. ANNE’S PARISH
Mass is celebrated in St. Anne’s Church at 10 a.m Monday to Saturday. During July and August there will be no Evening Mass at 7.30 p.m Monday to Friday. Weekend mass times are 6.30 p.m. Saturday Vigil mass and Sunday at 8 a.m., (9am in St. Columcille’s Hospital), 10.30 a.m. (family mass), midday and 6 p.m. Confessions are heard on Saturdays after the 10 a.m. mass, between 12.30 p.m. and 1 p.m. and after the 6.30 p.m. mass.
Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament takes place each Tuesday after the 10 a.m. mass until 11 a.m. Miraculous Medal Devotions take place at the Monday 10 a.m. mass.
Baptisms take place in St. Anne’s Church at 12.45 p.m. on the first Sunday of the Month and at 5 p.m. on the second, third and fourth Saturdays of the month. A month’s notice is required. Please contact Parish Secretary Fran Cunningham in St. Anne’s Parish Office to make your arrangements.
The Parish Office is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. St. Anne’s Resource Centre is open from 9.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each weekday.
Weekday evening Masses resume on Monday September 15th and not on September 8th as previously announced.

Morning Prayer is said each weekday morning in St. Anne’s Church at 9.25am and all are welcome to attend.
Celebrations to mark the 75th Anniversary of the opening of St. Anne’s began last Sunday evening with a 6pm Open Air Mass in the car park of Scoil Mhuire in place of the normal Sunday 6pm Mass in St. Anne’s Church. (September 2nd) Last night (Tuesday) Tom Dodd presented his lecture ‘Remembering Fr. James Sherwin – Shankill’s First Parish Priest ‘ in St .Anne’s Resource Centre at 8pm while tonight ( Wednesday) James Scannell will present his lecture ‘Shankill History Highlights ‘ at 8pm in the same venue.
Tomorrow night ( Thursday) the Jubilee Dinner Dance Takes place at 7.30pm in Fitzpatrick’s Caste Hotel – tickets are ¤45 each and available from St. Anne’s Resource Centre.
On Saturday afternoon there will be a procession from Shankill Library , at 5.30pm where the first Masses in Shankill were held, via New Vale and the village to St. Anne’s Church for formal Mass at 6.30pm. The week of celebrations ends on Sunday with a Healing Mass in St. Anne’s Church at 12 Noon.
Farewell to Fr. John Egan: Fr.John Egan departs from the parish this week for the Pallattine mother house in Thurles, Co. Tipperary, where he will be involved in the creation of a new spiritual centre.
Last Sunday Fr. John said his farewells to parishioners at a gathering in St.Anne’s Resource Centre after the 6pm Open Air Mass in Scoil Mhuire. We wish Fr. John all the best for the future.
Services of Worship in Rathmichael Church for this Sunday (The Sixteeneth Sunday after Trinity) are at 8.30am Holy Communion, 11am Holy Communion and 7pm Evening Prayer - Lector Ms. Jane Murphy.
THE EVENT OF THE YEAR
This Saturday many weeks of planning and preparing for the Rathmichael Parish Fete Committee under Chairperson Frank Thornburgh and Nigel Cooper, Mark Kenny, Frank O’Kennedy, Ms. Emma Parker, Ms. Caroline Senior, Ms. Anne Thompson, Ms. Ann Thornborough and Peter Williams, supported by numerous parishioner, will come to a successful conclusion when the gates of Rathmichael School open at 12 Noon to admit all those who will be attending this year’s event to avail of the many great bargain and attractions that make it known as Shankill’s ‘ Fete of the Year.’
The committee has been working very hard for many weeks and this week the tempo has increased as stall managers and their assistants prepare their stalls so that everything is ready to go at 12 Noon when this event, a vital fund raiser for Rathmichael parish, gets under way.
Traditionally the Shankill Community has always supported this great event and the committee hope that they will surpass the funds raised last year. So on Saturday make a point of calling into Rathmichael School between 12 Noon and 4 p.m. and support this great event.
This week the marquees have been going up in the grounds of Rathmichael School so people will still be able to shop in shelter until they drop if rain in form, shape or quantity attempts to put a damper on this great community event.
SHANKILL GUILD ICA
Meetings of the Shankill Guild ICA takes place at 8 p.m. on the second Monday of each month in the Shankill Old Folks Association Day Centre , Lower Road, Shankill. The Guild’s Activity Night takes place at 8 p.m. on the third Monday of each month in the Shankill Old Folks Association Day Centre.
The Craft Morning takes place each Wednesday from 10.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in St. Anne’s Resource Centre. New members welcome. Contact Ms. Betty Murray (President) at 2820069.
Shankill Library is open 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Fridays and on certain Saturdays and Mondays. The Library will be closed this Saturday and next Monday due to the June Bank Holiday but will be open on Saturday June 7th. MUSIC FOR THE EAR
Tonight (Wednesday) monthly meetings of the Shankill Classical Musical Club Wednesday resume at 7.45pm in the Shankill Old Folks Association Day Centre, Lower Road, Shankill.
A very hectic evening has been planned with the AGM taking place at which the reports of the outgoing committee will be placed before the members for discussion and adoption after which the committee for the coming year will be elected.
After a break for refreshments, members will be entertained by a five item programme including orchestra dances by MacCunn, Dvorak and Grieg, opera arias by Massenet, folk song arrangements by Percy Grainger, a piano trio (‘Notturno ‘) by Schubert and Syphony No 7 in E (iii.Scherzo) by Bruckner. This Seminar will take place in St. Anne’s Resource Centre on Tuesday evenings from September 16th for 7 weeks, 8pm to 10pm each night. All are welcome – those interested in taking part are asked to leave their names into the Parish Office located in St. Anne’s Resource Centre.
FIRST SATURDAY BOOK SALE
On Saturday morning the ‘ First Saturday ‘ Book Sale in aid of the Shankill Old Folks Association and Meals on Wheels takes place from 10am to 1pm in the Shankill Old Folks Association Day Centre, Lower Road, Shankill. All welcome – always an excellent of fact and fiction books to choose from at bargain prices. Donations of books always welcome and appreciated.
