REIGNING WORLD, European and European Union lightweight champion Katie Taylor has withdrawn from next month’s Witch Cup in Hungary because of a back injury.

Taylor, of the Bray Boxing Club, had been hoping to win her third gold medal on the trot at the Hungarian Multi Nations tournament.

But she has decided not to risk aggravating the injury further with her World title defence in China less than three months away.

The 22-year-old will be attempting to claim her second World title on the trot in China, two years after she finished on top of the 60Kg podium at the 2006 World Championships in New Delhi India.

The 2009 Women’s World Championships take place between November 22nd and 29th in Ningbo City, China.
