Kenny points earn Ballymanus thrilling win
Ballymanus 0-16, Valleymount 2-9: Two points by county Minor Mark Kenny gave Ballymanus a vital victory over Valleymount in a great match in the IFC at Baltinglass on Sunday evening.
D’ARCY SAND IFC Little or nothing separated the teams right throughout the hour but it was Valleymount that had set the pace for most of the second-half.
One of Micko’s men Seánie O’Neill gave Ballymanus a good start with two smart points while Raymond Stapleton added another.
Even at that stage Valleymount were not going to let their fancied opponents away.
Jimmy Fitzpatrick opened their account in the tenth minute and Brian Flynn added a great point. While Mark Kenny stretched the ‘Billies’ lead it was the Lakesiders that hit the front with a good goal by Shane Hughes in the 21st minute.
Points by the Murphy brothers, Ollie and Donal, put Ballymanus back in front but points by Glen Cullen and Flynn saw Valleymount take the lead again.
Just on the stroke of half-time Michael Stapleton pointed to leave it all square – 1-4 to 0-7 at half-time.
The sides again exchanged points on the restart but another goal by big full-forward, Shay Kelly gave Valleymount a lead that they held into the closing minutes.
Two players dominated the rest of the scoring, Glen Cullen for Valleymount and Michael Stapleton for Ballymanus, and both kicked some remarkable points.
Mark Kenny levelled the game for the fifth time in the last minute and then got the winner with the last kick of the match.
