LADIES JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL SUNDAY, 12.00 NOON

Eire Og, Greystones v. Baltinglass: At high noon this coming Sunday in the county grounds, Aughrim, both these sides will do battle for the Junior Championship title and with it entry to Senior ranks, writes Dominic Leech.

Both sides have qualified for the final in relatively easy fashion. Eire Og were victorious over Donard Glen in the quarter-finals and St. Patrick’s in the semi while Baltinglass defeated Fergal Ogs and Arklow Geraldines Ballymoney to qualify for the final.

Both teams play an open brand of football and have hugely talented players within their ranks. One would expect Lorna Fuscardi, Caoilfhionn Deeney and Laurie Ahern to shine for Eire Og but they are assisted by a talented forward group who will strive for victory at last for the north Wicklow team.

However, they will not get it all their own way and in Geraldine Norton, Anne Marie Doran and Edel Patterson the Green and Whites will put every obstacle in their way.

This match, which is eagerly awaited, will probably go to the wall with the Eire Og team possibly just shading it in what promises to be a high scoring fiesta of football.

LADIES SENIOR FINAL, 2.00 P.M.

Arklow Geraldines Ballymoney v. An Tochar: In the blue riband of ladies football in Wicklow this Sunday the curtain will fail on the Senior ladies championship with this new pairing of A.G.B. and An Tochar.

Again a tight match will be expected and much will depend on the An Tochar backs ability to curb the free-scoring Arklow attack in which Jessie McEleron and Tanya McDonald have struck a rich vein of form. A.G.B. however will not get it all their own way and certainly the An Tochar diamond of Monica Lynch, Fiona White and Nicky Dunne will strive to bring victory to the highest village in Wicklow.

Both teams had tough passages to the final, A.G.B. overcoming Bray after a titanic struggle in Newtown followed by their semifinal win against Kilbride while an Tochar defeated Carnew and then took on and defeated the defending champions from Blessington in the semi-final.

Although An Tochar are playing exceptionally well I suspect that if Tanya McDonald is in form and receives quality ball for the Byrnes at midfield A.G.B. will be tough to stop but An Tochar have been around the block for a while and will have a few plans of their own, no doubt.

So all is set for this match up and I expect a huge support for both these footballing sides.

Verdict: A.G.B. (by a neck).
