Man arrested after stabbing
CHARLESLAND ATTACK WOMAN IS SERIOUSLY INJURED
A MAN in his early twenties was yesterday (Tuesday) being questioned at Bray Garda Station in connection with a horrific stabbing attack at Charlesland in Greystones on Monday night.
A woman in her fifties was seriously injured in the incident when she was stabbed a number of times in the chest and abdomen area at around 8.2 5 p.m.
The alarm was raised by another person who was at the scene, and the victim was rushed by ambulance in critical condition to St. Vincent’s Hospital, where she is still recovering from the horrific assault. She was yesterday said to be in a stable state.
The search of the area for evidence continued until after 11 p.m. ‘There were loads of detectives around,’ said a resident. ‘They had big floodlights and it looked like they were searching for someone.’ The scene was preserved by Gardaí overnight. As word of the stabbing spread throughout the quiet cul-de-sac in the usually peaceful estate, residents reacted with shock to what had happened.
‘I heard sirens for ages as I sat at home,’ said a woman living in the area. ‘But it took a while for it to register that something serious had happened.’
She and other homeowners in Charlesland expressed their sympathy to the injured woman and said that they hope she makes a full recovery.
