Drunken woman thought that Garda car was a taxi
A 51-YEAR-OLD WOMAN who tried to flag down a Garda car thinking that it was a taxi was before Bray District Court for being drunk in public and for not cooperating with Gardaí.
The court heard that on August 14 at Trafalgar Road in Greystones, Helen O’Reilly of 28 Shanganagh Cliffs was lying drunk on the path and when she saw the Garda car she thought it was a taxi.
O’Reilly told Judge Murrough Connellan that she had been drinking in town and fell asleep on the Dart and that’s why she was in Greystones.
Garda John Murphy of Greystones Garda Station told the court that the Gardaí had received a report of a woman drunk on the side of the road.
When the Gardaí found O’Reilly she was swaying all over the place and on to the road and was a danger to herself and others.
When O’Reilly was brought back to the station she continued to bang on the cell door and was generally misbehaving.
When asked by the judge if she had a problem with drink, O’Reilly replied no.
Judge Connellan adjourned the matter until November 20 requesting a probation report for that date.
