Public to examine Kilcoole Area Plan
THE Kilcoole Local Area Plan 2008-2014 underwent a number of amendments this week which will now go on public display before the plan is adopted by Wicklow County Council.
Local area councillors Tom Fortune and George Jones proposed the majority of the changes which include the installation of a new link road linking an education zone to the Lott Lane junction.
In addition it was agreed by members to ensure that land was reserved at Ballydonarea for the provision of a new playground and public park.
These will be situated adjacent to a residential development of a maximum of seven properties and according to councillors should be completely funded by the developer.
Cllr. Jones suggested that a ‘watertight’ agreement should be met to ensure that the project is secure and funded while Cllr. Pat Vance said that this was reasonable considering that the landowner would benefit greatly from 50 per cent of their land being rezoned for residential purposes.
‘I am very keen to see a public park and playground in Kilcoole. This land was zoned as open space previously and was of limited value to the owner. There should be an agreement put in place for the council to get the land at a reasonable price and it should not be zoned until this is done,’ said Cllr. Derek Mitchell. County Manager Eddie Sheehy was of a similar opinion and told members the zoning will be of significant benefit to the owner and that they should contribute to the public good.
