Men­tal Health As­so­ci­a­tion to hold in­for­ma­tion evening on de­pres­sion

AN IN­FOR­MA­TION MEET­ING on de­pres­sion will take place in the Grand Ho­tel in Wick­low on Tues­day Septem­ber 16 or­gan­ised by Wick­low Men­tal Health As­so­ci­a­tion.

John Wills from Aware will present the evening on be­half of the or­gan­i­sa­tion that pro­vides in­for­ma­tion and sup­port to those af­fected by de­pres­sion, their fam­i­lies and car­ers.

De­pres­sion is es­ti­mated to af­fect more than 400,000 peo­ple liv­ing in Ire­land at any one time. Peo­ple have a one in three chance of be­ing af­fected.

Symp­toms in­clude sleep dis­tur­bance, poor con­cen­tra­tion, low self es­teem, lack of en­ergy, ap­petite prob­lems, anx­i­ety, loss of in­ter­est in hob­bies and in some cases sui­ci­dal thoughts or be­hav­iour.
