Jackson in fine form for Irish team in Australia
SHANE JACKSON, the 2007/2008 Champion Conditional Jockey , has returned home to his residence in Baltinglass with a further accolade after recently winning the Irish/Australia Jockeys Team Challenge down in Australia.
Jackson, was crowned the Champion Conditional Jockey after 26 victories in Ireland at the end of April and was selected to represent Ireland in addition to Nina Carberry, Alain Cawley and Katie Walsh.
Travelling to Australia after the Galway Festival, the Irish team of four riders did really well by winning five of the races with Shane capturing two of these. Winning on the Australian breds, Consolidation and Take The Sandwich, for local Australian trainers, Jackson and his three team members were presented with a magnificent cup and assorted memorabilia. Spending a little over two weeks “down under” Jackson described the trip ‘as a brilliant experience’, and noted that the ‘yellow plastic hurdles and fences are softer than at home’.
Riding in one flat race with the remainder of the contests over jumps, at tracks in Adelaide and Melbourne, Jackson indicated that the ‘ prize money is very good but the attendance is on the small size’.
2008 has been a really good year for the 21 year old son of Colin and Geraldine Jackson from Kiltegan and no doubt he hopes that he can add to track victories in Ireland, Britain and now Australia into the future.
