TRAGEDY struck off the coast of Bray last Sunday when Kenneth Jones (46) lost his life while sailing from Wicklow to the Poolbeg Yacht Club in Dublin.

Kenneth, who was living in the Swords area of Dublin, was taking part in the annual Sean Whiston Perpetual Cup Race. He was spotted unconscious in the water at around 11.30 a.m.

A Mayday was issued by the yacht Allanah at approximately 11.41 a.m., stating that there was ‘a man in the water.’

He was lifted from the water and transferred to Tallaght Hospital where he later passed away.

While the Coastguard helicopter attended the scene, it was a local Bray Sailing Club vessel, the ‘Naomh Cronan’, that retrieved the man after hearing the distress call. The helicopter airlifted the injured man to hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

‘Our thoughts and best wishes are with the person’s family,’ said Poolbeg Yacht & Boat Club in a statement.
