RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION

The Residents Association are organising a clean up in the village meeting in the Castle Inn car park at 11 a.m. on Saturday 20th September.

The match for our second team at home to St. Fergals was postponed but both our first team and youths enjoyed good wins. The Youth’s made the short trip to Greystones and came out on the right end of a seven goal thriller.

Nelly O’Brien found his shooting boots again and scored a hat trick while the prolific Billy Clarkson completed the scoring in a good all round team display.

The first team took on Duncannon from Wexford at home in the FAI Junior Cup and prevailed 2-1 after extra time to advance to the next round in difficult playing conditions.

With virtually the last kick of the game a Dean Odlum goal forced extra time. Early in the first period Terry Murphy got on the end of a good move to score what proved to be the winner.

All in all it was a good all round team display against a very good opponent. However star of the day was Gary Kelly who did Trojan work to get the pitch playable. Well done Gary and your two helpers!

The fixtures for next weekend are as follows; 1st Team Away to Arklow Celtic- KO Sunday at 11.30 a.m. 2nd Team Home to Wolfe Tone Celtic- KO Sunday at 2.30 p.m. At the moment the youths have no game this week end. (Fixtures are subject to change).

Our 8A’s got on the winning trail straight away with a hard fought 1-nil win at home to Greystones ’B’. A long range cracker from Cian Walsh secured the win while best on the day were Jack Gallagher & Lee Turner.

The ’B’ teams from Newtown & Rathnew served up an excellent game in Newtown sharing six goals. The Newtown goals were scored by Melanie Clarke who notched 2 and Daniel Testa.

A below par display from the Under 9’s resulted in a 3-1 home defeat at the hands of Wicklow Town ’A’. Sean Gregory scored the Newtown goal and he along with Lee McMahon & Dion Doyle were the best players on the day. Another stat from this match was yet another fantastic penalty save from Newtown net minder Alex Synnott.

The Under 10’s short a couple of regulers came out on top at home to Ardmore Rovers in an excellent game of football by the narrowest of margins 10. As in all games between these two teams the game was decided by a cracking goal, this time from Kenneth Turner with a shot from 25 yards!

The Under 11’s collected six points from two games with Ardmore Rovers in the past week. On Tuesday night in Bray they recorded a 5-1 win with birthday boy Keith Dalton celebrating a day earlier by helping himself to four goals. Evan Moran started the scoring with an excellent header from a left wing cross.

On Sunday in Newtown Dillon Carthy scored four goals, Sean Dease helped himself to a hat trick and there were singles for Kenneth Turner, Keith Dalton & left back Stephen Taylor in the return match.

Conceding three early goals meant the 12’s faced an uphill task at home to Arklow Town ’B’. They eventually lost on a 6-1 scoreline with Robert Gregory scoring the Newtown goal.

Last but not least the Under 13’s learned a harsh lesson in their first game in the Premier Division at home to Wicklow Rovers ’A’. Only Dean Taylor, Cian Gallagher & Steven Davis played anywhere near their best in a heavy defeat.
