Mini Sevens heaven!
SEVEN PUPILS from the Garden County got the opportunity of a lifetime when they played in front of huge crowds in Croke Park during the All Ireland semi-finals last month. Three hurlers and four footballers donned the colours of the various counties when they participated in the GAA/INTO Mini Sevens series. Each child had been selected after a long process – first of all they had to be picked for their school, their school had to win the county blitz and then at the regional festival they had to impress the independent assessors. Well done to Anthony Byrne from St. Laurence’s Greystones and Rachael and Ciara Byrne from St. Brigid’s Crossbridge who wore the black and amber of the Cats against the red of the rebels. Wearing the red of the Rebelets against the Kingdom were Emma Byrne and Sarah Mills of Donard NS while on the same day Niall Donnelly from St. Pat’s in wicklow wore the green and gold. Finally wearing the red goalkeeper’s jersey of the O’Neill County was Tommy Dunne, also of St. Patrick’s in the county town. All seven children played their hearts out and we are sure that they will treasure the memories of their big day for many years to come.
