Man unsheathed sword as Gardai searched for drugs
A SHANKILL man who unsheathed a large sword as Gardaí searched his house for drugs had his case sent on to Dun Laoghaire District Court as he was on a suspended sentence at the time of the offence.
Garda Stephen Bolger told the court that John Kinsella, 16 Rathsallagh Drive, was in that house when the drug squad arrived to search it.
He said that Kinsella went towards the window and turned around holding the sword. Garda Bolger retreated a number of feet and told the accused to drop the knife.
Garda Bolger took out his baton and Kinsella lowered the sword, putting it on the kitchen table.
He was then cuffed and later calmed down and was no longer aggressive so the cuffs were removed.
He was convicted at Dun Laoghaire District Court in August 2007 and given a 12 month suspended sentence on the condition that he keep the peace for two years.
