Showband fans strut their stuff
THERE WAS plenty of dancing in the ballroom of the Royal Hotel last Thursday night as an eight-piece showband played all the classics from the hey-day of the late Joe Dolan, Dickie Rock and all the gang.
The evening was arranged by staff of Sunbeam House to support St. Catherine’s special school in Newcastle. The two organisations have very strong links with many of the pupils of St. Catherine’s traditionally going on to become clients of Sunbeam House.
Organisers have yet to count the proceeds of the fund raiser but hope to have generated a respectable sum. They estimated that around 200 people came along to the event.
There was a raffle on the night, prizes including lunch vouchers for local pubs Jim Doyle’s, The Martello and The Strand, as well as four ball golf at Bray and Arklow Golf Clubs.
Staff members from both Sunbeam House and St. Catherine’s were there to enjoy the music and support the school, as were clients and their families - all of whom did plenty of dancing while the band got going.
The event came after a number of Sunbeam House staff took part in a triathlon last month, also to raise money for St. Catherine’s.
