New pool gets thumbs up from swimming fans

Bray People - - About Greystones -

GREYSTONES swimming pool and community centre were tried and tested last week by the two committees most responsible for the existence of the facility.

Some swimmers from the swimming club took part in the inaugural swim in the pool and were extremely pleased with the fruits of their years of labour.

The complex includes an adult pool, a practice pool and a toddler pool. Upstairs there is a gym with aerobics studios.

The community centre committee, including Chairman Declan Lynch, had a tour of the building. Declan said that the centre was most impressive, adding that Greystones now has a wealth of sports grounds and facilities.

Declan described local residents having taken part in a meeting in the LaTouche hotel 12 years ago to get the ball rolling on a new community centre for the town.

He said that the main hall includes the scope for basketball, indoor soccer and more. He explained that also on site are a number of meeting rooms and some sound-proof rooms that could feasibly be used for band rehearsals.

‘This whole project has taken a huge community effort,’ remarked Declan. The facility is expected to be open to the public from October 12.

The Greystones Swim Group: Grainne White, Angela Wynne, Margaret Gillespie, Jo Leonard, Breda St John and Denis Foley take the inaugural dip inthe pool.
