Wick­low lose out to Car­low

WICK­LOW RUGBY Club once again hosted the South East 10-a-side com­pe­ti­tion on Satur­day.

Ten sides took the field with teams form Wick­low, Rath­drum, Ark­low, Gorey, Wex­ford, En­nis­cor­thy, New Ross, Kilkenny, Car­low and Tullow. Wick­low opened with a good win in their group beat­ing Tullow 22 points to 14.

Mark Hig­gins opened the scor­ing with a try un­der the posts which Ben Porter con­verted.

A minute later Ja­son Byrne scored out wide. Eight min­utes Ai­dan Kear­ney fin­ished a fine move scor­ing in the cor­ner. Tullow started the sec­ond-half much brighter, scor­ing and con­vert­ing two tries in the first five min­utes.

How­ever, Wick­low then set up camp on the Tullow line and with a minute to go An­drew Han­lon fin­ished an ex­cel­lent set-piece move scor­ing in the cor­ner. Wick­low then took on Car­low. Car­low scored four tries in the first-half and set up the win. How­ever, Wick­low never gave up and fought to the fi­nal whis­tle.

No dis­grace for Wick­low los­ing to the even­tual win­ners of the com­pe­ti­tion.
