Wicklow lose out to Carlow
WICKLOW RUGBY Club once again hosted the South East 10-a-side competition on Saturday.
Ten sides took the field with teams form Wicklow, Rathdrum, Arklow, Gorey, Wexford, Enniscorthy, New Ross, Kilkenny, Carlow and Tullow. Wicklow opened with a good win in their group beating Tullow 22 points to 14.
Mark Higgins opened the scoring with a try under the posts which Ben Porter converted.
A minute later Jason Byrne scored out wide. Eight minutes Aidan Kearney finished a fine move scoring in the corner. Tullow started the second-half much brighter, scoring and converting two tries in the first five minutes.
However, Wicklow then set up camp on the Tullow line and with a minute to go Andrew Hanlon finished an excellent set-piece move scoring in the corner. Wicklow then took on Carlow. Carlow scored four tries in the first-half and set up the win. However, Wicklow never gave up and fought to the final whistle.
No disgrace for Wicklow losing to the eventual winners of the competition.
