Hollywood win to leave AGB in relegation battle
Hollywood 2- 16, Arklow Geraldines Ballymoney 0- 11: Arklow Geraldines Ballymoney were the ones remaining in the dreaded relegation zone after being beaten by Hollywood in their opening match of the Keating Trophy Senior football competition at Avondale on Saturday. KEATING TROPHY Hollywood were without their star county forward Tony Hannon but that was probably cancelled out by the fact that AGB fielded without Ciarán Hyland.
It was a reasonably competitive game of football between the sides, without ever being spectacular and the result was in the balance right up to the final ten minutes.
A first- half goal by midfielder Pat O’Sullivan gave Hollywood their lead 1-4 to 0-4 at the break and AGB were in a two- point striking distance of their opponents entering the final phase of the match.
Then an injury to Arklow Geraldine’s midfielder Darren McAndrew upset the rhythm of the seasiders and Hollywood struck for their second goal by John David Burke which set them on the road to victory.
Hollywood have copper-fastened their place in Senior football ranks next season with this win and they will now meet An Tóchar in the next round of the Keating Trophy.
Thomas Burke at wing- back, Alan Mooney and Kevin Glennon were Hollywood’s stars on the day.
Scorers for Hollywood were: Pat O’Sullivan (1-1), John David Burke (1-0), Keith Peppard, Ciarán Tyrrell, Keith Burke, Thomas Burke, Garrett Bell, Gary Tutty and John Mooney.
AGB scorers: Philip Healy (0-4), Niall Mullett (0-3), Pat Egan (0-2), Darren McAndrew, Ivan Hurley (0-1 each).
