Avondale bring end to ARP’s winning run
Avondale 2-11, Arklow Rock Parnells 26: Arklow Rock Parnells saw their unbeaten run in the Salley Cup Senior hurling competition come to an end when beaten by five points by Avondale on Saturday last.
SALLEY CUP Yet the seasiders remain at the top of the leader board in the competition and must still be on course to make the final.
Two second-half goal strikes by Avondale’s full- forward Brian Burke set ‘ The Dales’ on the road to victory over an Arklow side that paid the penalty for not converting the chances that came their way.
Both teams lined out short a number of their first team players and that would have taken from this game as a competitive contest. Despite playing well below recent form, Arklow Rock Parnells went on to lead by a point at the break, 0-5 to 0-4, but after the change over Brian Burke’s two goals for Avondale turned this game around.
Arklow Rocks were left chasing this game but it just was not happening for them on this occasion. John Furlong, Danny Curran and John Furlong were the pick of the crop in this game.
James Doyle, Eugene Heffernan and Myles Conway were the stand out player for Avondale.
