Pa­trol car smashes into road sign pole

RES­I­DENTS IN Rock Val­ley were wo­ken up with a bang in the early hours of last Thurs­day when a garda car crashed into a pole.

The garda car was in pur­suit of a thug that had been dis­turbed by the gar­daí in Grey­stones.

A garda spokesper­son said that gar­daí spot­ted a man in the sil­ver car in­volved in crim­i­nal ac­tiv­ity and sig­nalled the car to stop.

When the car failed to stop a high speed chase be­gan as the car drove in the di­rec­tion of Kil­macanogue.

The car then en­tered the Rocky Val­ley es­tate at around 5 a.m. with the garda car still in pur­suit.

‘I was wo­ken up at around 5 a.m. to the sound of brakes and skid­ding and then a big bang,’ ex­plained a lo­cal res­i­dent, ‘when I looked out the win­dow I saw two garda cars and one of them had crashed into a road sign pole.’

A sec­ond garda car con­tin­ued to give chase to the sil­ver car.

At around 5.20 a.m. an­other eye wit­ness saw the sil­ver car crashed out­side the Calary Fill­ing Sta­tion in Kil­macanogue close to the Rocky Val­ley Es­tate.

A garda spokesper­son con­firmed that dur­ing the garda pur­suit the sil­ver car did crash and the driver of the sil­ver car was ar­rested on Road Traf­fic of­fences and was later re­leased.
