Patrol car smashes into road sign pole
RESIDENTS IN Rock Valley were woken up with a bang in the early hours of last Thursday when a garda car crashed into a pole.
The garda car was in pursuit of a thug that had been disturbed by the gardaí in Greystones.
A garda spokesperson said that gardaí spotted a man in the silver car involved in criminal activity and signalled the car to stop.
When the car failed to stop a high speed chase began as the car drove in the direction of Kilmacanogue.
The car then entered the Rocky Valley estate at around 5 a.m. with the garda car still in pursuit.
‘I was woken up at around 5 a.m. to the sound of brakes and skidding and then a big bang,’ explained a local resident, ‘when I looked out the window I saw two garda cars and one of them had crashed into a road sign pole.’
A second garda car continued to give chase to the silver car.
At around 5.20 a.m. another eye witness saw the silver car crashed outside the Calary Filling Station in Kilmacanogue close to the Rocky Valley Estate.
A garda spokesperson confirmed that during the garda pursuit the silver car did crash and the driver of the silver car was arrested on Road Traffic offences and was later released.
