Knife thugs at­tack sales­man on es­tate

A SALES­MAN do­ing the rounds of Rath­drum homes dur­ing the week was set upon by two thugs and robbed at knife­point.

The in­ci­dent occurred at 10.40 a.m. on Fri­day morn­ing at Hawthron Drive where a num­ber of peo­ple are be­lieved to have wit­nessed the at­tack which left the vic­tim re­quir­ing med­i­cal at­ten­tion in hospi­tal.

The man who was robbed would be well known in the Rath­drum area and vis­its on an al­most weekly ba­sis.

He was talk­ing to a po­ten­tial cus­tomer out­side her home just prior to the at­tack. He was mak­ing his way back to his parked ve­hi­cle when two male youths came up from be­hind him, with one bear­ing a knife and threat­en­ing the man with it.

He was beaten over the head and around the ab­dom­i­nal area, suf­fer­ing abra­sions to his face and neck, as well a some cracked ribs. The at­tack took place in front of a num­ber of peo­ple.

Be­tween ¤700 and ¤800 as stolen and a garda spokesper­son said the vic­tim was ‘very fright­ened’ at the or­deal.

Gar­daí are con­tin­u­ing their in­ves­ti­ga­tion and any­one with any rel­e­vant in­for­ma­tion should con­tact the lo­cal Rath­drum garda sta­tion.
