Delgany bypass work to start in early 2009

Bray People - - Special Report -

AFTER a 25-year wait the people of Greystones and Delgany may finally see the completion of the Delgany bypass.

Wicklow County Council confirmed the Compulsory Purchase Order at the eleventh hour for the bypass.

The Council were short of money and there was a concern amongst some of Greystones Town Councillors that the Compulsory Purchase Order would not proceed.

The Compulsory Purchase Order had to be confirmed by the September 18 or it would have to start again.

It was confirmed on September 17 and work on the short section to link Delgany Wood with Convent Road should now start in early 2009.

During the 25 years the population of the area has grown from about 7,000 to 20,000.
