Bray People - - Special Report -

THE FOUR year Wicklow County Arts Strategy was launched last week and clearly sets out key priorities and areas of focus over the next few years.

Representation from the Arts Council, Wicklow local authorities, councillors, TDs and many members of the artistic community gathered at the Wicklow County Campus in Rathnew for the official launch of the arts strategy 2008 - 2012.

It will form a major part of the framework for local authorities in Wicklow and how they support the arts. It also recognises the relevance and value of arts in the social, cultural and economic development of Wicklow.

Speaking at the launch , Wicklow Cathaoirleach Derek Mitchell said ‘today in the county, we are at a stage of development in the arts and a level of professional, amateur, commercial and educational arts activity and practice that we couldn’t have foreseen when the Arts Office was established in 1997.’
