Fr Billy says fond farewell
FR. BILLY FARRELL bid a fond farewell to the Ashford/Glenealy Parish on Saturday night after nine years servicing the needs of his parishioners.
The high esteem with which Fr. Farrell is held was obvious by the large attendance gathered in Glenealy Hall to send him off to his new parish in Dublin.
Members of the Glenealy parish presented him with a cheque and a Waterford crystal decanter, while the Ashford Community Group presented him with a sketch of Ashford Church.
Reverend John Lancaster also made an appearance and made another presentation to Fr. Farrell. Finally Tom Myler was able to hand over a wonderful hand carving he made of Glenealy Church out of wood.
Fr. Farrell thanked everyone for all their support down through the years and promised to do his best to stay in touch.
Regular church goers will be aware that Fr. Farrell was renowned for handing out lollipops and sweets to children as they left mass and for the final time on Friday he also provided goodies to youngsters with a sweet tooth.
