Fr Billy says fond farewell

FR. BILLY FAR­RELL bid a fond farewell to the Ash­ford/Glenealy Parish on Satur­day night af­ter nine years ser­vic­ing the needs of his parish­ioners.

The high es­teem with which Fr. Far­rell is held was ob­vi­ous by the large at­ten­dance gath­ered in Glenealy Hall to send him off to his new parish in Dublin.

Mem­bers of the Glenealy parish pre­sented him with a cheque and a Water­ford crys­tal de­can­ter, while the Ash­ford Com­mu­nity Group pre­sented him with a sketch of Ash­ford Church.

Rev­erend John Lan­caster also made an ap­pear­ance and made an­other pre­sen­ta­tion to Fr. Far­rell. Fi­nally Tom Myler was able to hand over a won­der­ful hand carv­ing he made of Glenealy Church out of wood.

Fr. Far­rell thanked every­one for all their sup­port down through the years and promised to do his best to stay in touch.

Reg­u­lar church go­ers will be aware that Fr. Far­rell was renowned for hand­ing out lol­lipops and sweets to chil­dren as they left mass and for the fi­nal time on Fri­day he also pro­vided good­ies to youngsters with a sweet tooth.
