EACH YEAR Greystones gardening enthusiast John Markham opens his doors to all and sundry to show off the grounds to raise money for Greystones Cancer Support Centre.
He and his wife Mary handed over this year’s proceeds last weekend in their gardens at Calluna. Hundreds of people enjoyed the display earlier in the summer, including staff of the centre.
‘The gardens are gorgeous. They are a real treat to visit,’ said Kathleen Kelleher from Greystones Cancer Research this week.’
John, who is chairman of Greystones and District Horticultural Society, was on hand throughout the weekend to discuss his garden, and give helpful hints to visitors.
Refreshments were served throughout the weekend, and there were plants on sale. The event raised over ¤1,000 for the charity.
‘Calluna is a very special garden,’ said Kathleen. ‘John Markham is Chairman of the Delgany and District Horticultural Society so visitors are in for a real treat when they call to see the spectacular flowers, shrubs and trees.
The care and detail on display are to be much envied. We are very grateful that John and Mary have taken the time and effort to show their garden in aid of Greystones Cancer Support.’
