New­town bowl­ing club have re­turned for the 2008/09 sea­son, and are looking for­ward to a good sea­son. This year we have two teams in the B sec­tion ,and one team in the A sec­tion of the east­coast in­door bowl­ing League.

The first B game is in New­town be­tween New­town B1 and New­town B2. John Green, Chair­man of the League will be on hand to over see that all is above board. The A team are play­ing on Wed­nes­day Oc­to­ber 1st in New­town. Gorey A are the vis­it­ing team.


New­town Ju­nior B team will have an­other day out in the cham­pi­onship, as their semi-fi­nal match against St. Pats ended in a draw, 9 points each.

The se­nior team had an im­por­tant home win against Strat­ford in the league on Satur­day in New­town. The fi­nal score was 2-07 to 1-09.

We had two wins last week­end as both the firsts and youths won. Un­for­tu­nately the sec­ond team had to con­cede a walkover due to in­suf­fi­cient play­ers been avail­able.

The First team won away to Ash­ford Rovers on a 4-3 score­line. Goalscor­ers were Paudie Doyle, Ciaran McGuirl, Dean Od­lum and Cathal McNi­cholas.

The youths en­joyed a good win in the Le­in­ster Youths Cup af­ter a 3-2 win at home to Tul­lam­ore Town. Niall O’Brien with 2 goals and Conor Ec­cel­ston spe­cial gave us a 3-0 half time ad­van­tage.

The vis­i­tors hit back strongly in the sec­ond half with two goals as the home side hung on to the fi­nal whis­tle.

Six games were down for de­ci­sion last week­end and from th­ese games we recorded 3 wins, 1 draw and 2 de­feats.

The 8A’s con­tinue to sparkle af­ter a 71 home win over Wick­low Rovers. Conor O’ Toole- Od­lum con­tin­ued his hot goalscor­ing streak with four goals and there were sin­gles for Adam Hef­fer­nan, Cian Walsh and Jack Doyle.

Equally the 8B’s are also fly­ing af­ter a 6-0 home win over Ash­ford Rovers. Daniel Testa went one bet­ter than Conor with a five goal haul while new­comer Ryan Smillie added the other goal. Man of the match for the B’s was Ti­mothy Hamil­ton.

The Un­der 9’s lost nar­rowly away to St. An­tho­nys on a 1-nil score­line in a game that could have gone ei­ther way. Best for the 9’s were Corey Sul­li­van, Sean Gre­gory and Alex Syn­nott.
