Last-gasp Bromell goal earns draw for Bray
Bray 1, Glenanne 1: Bray Ladies first team squad kicked off their opening match of the Division 1 league, hosting newly promoted Glenanne.
HOCKEY From the start, Bray opened play with some impressive moves from their midfield to forward line and centre-forward Wendy Adams was unlucky not to put the home side ahead early on.
However it was the visitors, known for their resilience and fast paced forwards, who opened with the games first goal. Glenanne purposefully worked the ball up the pitch breaking through Bray’s defence line and unfortunately, against the run of play, placed the ball in the home net.
Not to be deterred, Bray came out a much stronger and focused team for the secondhalf of play. New player Elaine Bromell was magnificent throughout and Bray were unfortunate not to capitalise on some well worked passes from the midfield player.
It was starting to look ominous for Bray however they persevered and kept up the pressure against the visitors.
After being awarded a multitude of short corners for some very determined play, it was through the pinpoint accuracy of Bromell that saved the day just seconds before the final whistle.
Bray will welcome the return of some key players next week before they take on an experienced Pembroke side in Serpentine Avenue.
