New­town win thrilling fi­nal

New­town 4-13, Aughrim-An­nacurra 3-13 (AET): This was a C foot­ball cham­pi­onship game in name only as both New­town and Aughrim-An­nacurra served up a dis­play of qual­ity foot­ball and ex­cite­ment that was just in­cred­i­ble.

U-14 C FOOT­BALL FI­NAL This fi­nal went to ex­tra-time and the re­sult was still in the bal­ance right up to the last kick of the ball be­fore New­town won by a tight 4-13 to 3-13 mar­gin in the end.

Played at Avon­dale on Sun­day morn­ing in ideal con­di­tions, both teams de­serve full credit for pro­vid­ing such fan­tas­tic en­ter­tain­ment for the large crowd which was kept in sus­pense right up to the fi­nal whis­tle.

Scor­ers for New­town: Stu­art Syn­nott (2-4), Seán Hef­fer­nan (1-5), Michael Doyle (1-0), Ross Davis, Luke Martin, Kevin Coster and Ciaran Law­less (0-1 each).

Re­ply­ing for bat­tling AughrimAn­nacurra were: Pat Phe­lan (1-6), Peter Quigley (2-3), Martin Doyle (0-2), Nevin O’Sul­li­van and Niall Henry (0-1 each).

Af­ter and the match, Pat Mitchell pre­sented the cup to James Len­nox, the New­town cap­tain, while the Peo­ple News­pa­pers man-of-the match award was pre­sented to Stu­art Syn­nott by Ed­die Leonard.
