Kil­bride 3-6; Ti­na­hely 0- 11: Kil­bride booked their place in the semi­fi­nal of the Ju­nior C foot­ball cham­pi­onship with a clear-cut win over Ti­na­hely.

JCFC The goals were the dif­fer­ence be­tween two oth­er­wise well-matched teams. Kil­bride took their goal­ing chances which helped them to set the pace right through the game. Ti­na­hely kept pick­ing off the points and stayed in touch all the way but never took the lead at any stage.

Kil­bride got off to a fly­ing start with Mi­nor star Seán Byrne point­ing in the sec­ond minute and Brian Ruiz get­ting the first goal of the match in the fifth minute.

Seán Byrne and John O’Brien had added points be­fore Ciarán Kenny got Ti­na­hely’s first score in the 15th minute.

While Ciarán Kenny (2) and Luke Bren­nan added more points for Ti­na­hely Dave Reddy had his first goal to leave Kil­bride lead­ing by 2-4 to 0-4 at the break.

Ti­na­hely closed the gap to three points early in the sec­ond-half with points from Ciarán Kenny (2) and sub Micky Mur­ray but Brian Ruiz struck for his sec­ond goal and it was all over. Ti­na­hely won a penalty mid­way through the sec­ond-half. but this way a bad day for penalty tak­ers and for the sec­ond time in­side an hour we saw the chance wasted at the same goal as Ciarán Kenny saw his rasper take paint off the wrong side the wrong side of an upright.

Lively vet­eran Micky Mur­ray kicked over his sec­ond point. An­other great war­rior ‘Buddy’ Byrne sent over an­other smart point while Kenny pointed two more frees but Kil­bride still held on to their lead and when Michael Ruttle won a free one of their stars David Reddy had the chance to seal victory with a late point.

Both sides lost strong mid­field­ers through in­jury – Seán Byrne who will be at mid­field for the Bless­ing­ton Mi­nors on Sun­day went off early on with a back in­jury whele Ti­na­hely vet­eran Cole­man Byrne went off with a sus­pected bro­ken nose.
