GAA get go-ahead for €10m training centre
WICKLOW GAA has received the go-ahead to provide a €10 million training centre and school of excellence situated near Rathdrum and catering for all county teams.
The project provides for the construction of five full-size all weather pitches and a sports gymnasium - incorporating fitness and treatment rooms and weight training facilities - on a 50 acre site on the outskirts of Rathdrum.
County Development chairman Victor O’Shaughnessy welcomed the grant of planning permission by Wicklow County Council and described it as a great step forward for the GAA in Wicklow.
‘We are absolutely over the moon and I have no doubt but that in future Wicklow’s teams will be well prepared and trained.’
Wicklow County Council has imposed a number of conditions on the grant of permission for the training facility, relating to the approach road which has to be widened.
