GAA get go-ahead for €10m train­ing cen­tre

WICK­LOW GAA has re­ceived the go-ahead to pro­vide a €10 mil­lion train­ing cen­tre and school of ex­cel­lence sit­u­ated near Rath­drum and ca­ter­ing for all county teams.

The project pro­vides for the construction of five full-size all weather pitches and a sports gym­na­sium - in­cor­po­rat­ing fit­ness and treat­ment rooms and weight train­ing fa­cil­i­ties - on a 50 acre site on the out­skirts of Rath­drum.

County De­vel­op­ment chair­man Vic­tor O’Shaugh­nessy wel­comed the grant of plan­ning per­mis­sion by Wick­low County Coun­cil and de­scribed it as a great step for­ward for the GAA in Wick­low.

‘We are ab­so­lutely over the moon and I have no doubt but that in fu­ture Wick­low’s teams will be well pre­pared and trained.’

Wick­low County Coun­cil has im­posed a num­ber of con­di­tions on the grant of per­mis­sion for the train­ing fa­cil­ity, re­lat­ing to the ap­proach road which has to be widened.
