RUMOURS that computer giant and local employer Dell is to leave Ireland altogether have been dismissed by Defence minister Willie O’Dea, who said that it was a ‘total lie’.

The story, which stirred fears amongst local employees of Dell, was published last week by a Sunday newspaper, which has been accused by Minister O’Dea of spreading panic and fear.

Dell, based at nearby Cherrywood, formerly based in Bray, employs around 1,300 people, many of whom live in Co. Wick- low, while 3,000 people work at the Limerick plant.

The report claimed that the government was already aware of company plans to pull out of Ireland. ‘The report is just total untruth, a total lie,’ said Minister O’Dea.
