Paralympian Pádraic enjoys massive party
THE FAMILY, friends and neighbours of Paralympics hero Padraic Moran came out to Katie Gallagher’s last Friday night to congratulate him on having come fifth in the games in Boccia last month.
This came just weeks after he and the rest of the team were moved to tears when over 1,000 people cheered them on at Dublin airport on their arrival back from Beijing.
‘We were led out by a piper,’ explained Padraic. ‘We were just coming past baggage and we started to hear all this noise. It was overwhelming and so emotional, we had never experienced anything like it.’
Padraic’s parent’s Catherine and Pat were with him, as were his brother Eamon and Sister Sinead and niece and nephew Caoimhe and Fionn.
Neighbours from Avoca Drive also came along, as did all of his aunts, uncles, cousins and team mate Bobby.
The man of the hour said a few words of thanks to his family and friends as well as the sports council, PCI and CPSI. He then present- ed a proud Catherine with a bouquet of flowers.
‘Without the Sports Council we wouldn’t be going anywhere,’ he remarked, adding that he was very grateful to Irish Life for allowing Robert, his best friend and oncourt assistant, the time off to go to China.
Robert had him welling up again when he presented him with a framed photo-collage of all the pictures from Beijing, representing not just an amazing achievement, but some memories that will last a lifetime.
