Council to build new yard
NEWS that a new Wicklow County Council depot is to be constructed in Greystones has been welcomed by members who say that the facility will be a positive development for both staff and the council.
Cllr. Kathleen Kelleher commented that the land on which the current depot is situated will be a very valuable asset to the council once it is freed up by the move.
‘This will be an investment in workers who will enjoy better facilities. I hope it is one they will be happy to move to. I look forward to seeing it up and running,’ she said.
Cllr. Pat Casey was also positive in his praise for the project but questioned how certain it is that the build will go ahead due to current financial cutbacks.
‘ Can we be assured that this won’t be put on the long finger? We need to know there is money there as it is a very worthwhile investment.’
Such assurances were not forthcoming from County Manager Eddie Sheehy however who said that more will be known after the forthcoming national budget as the financial position within the council is precarious at present.
