Jolanta Loritz-Do­browol­ska, a res­i­dent of Laragh for the past year, will be hold­ing a pho­to­graphic ex­hi­bi­tion in the Brock­agh Cen­tre on Sun­day 12th Oc­to­ber from 11 am.

The ex­hi­bi­tion, en­ti­tled ‘My Ire­land - Life, Land­scapes and Lo­cal, in­cludes shots of Bray, Glendalough, Der­ry­bawn, Vartry Reser­voir, Glen­mac­nass and Troop­er­stown’.

Sadly, Jolanta will be leav­ing Ire­land for her home in Poland at the end of Oc­to­ber and she wants to share her pho­to­graphic mem­o­ries with all her friends here. This ex­hi­bi­tion is her way of say­ing ‘Thank You’. All are wel­come.


The dates for the Christ­mas Craft Mar­kets at the Fair are Sun­day 9 and 30 Novem­ber and Sun­day 7th and 14th De­cem­ber. For fur­ther in­for­ma­tion con­tact Co­lette on 0404 45600.


There will be no Ball­room Danc­ing class this Wed­nes­day Oc­to­ber 8. Ball­room Danc­ing will re­comence on 15th Oc­to­ber at 7p.m. in the Brock­agh Cen­tre. Learn how to tango, waltz and fox­trot. Con­tact Deborah on 086 8547322.


There will be a Lunchtime Con­cert on Tues­day 28th Oc­to­ber in the Glendalough Ho­tel. The con­cert will fea­ture the Wood­lands Com­mu­nity School Choir & Band from the U.K.

The con­cert will be fol­lowed by a fixed lunch.Ad­mis­sion to con­cert €3 and lunch is €12.

The pro­ceeds of the con­cert are in aid of the Laragh Glendalough & District Ac­tive Re­tire­ment.


Tues­day night is dance night at the Brock­agh Cen­tre from 10 pm till late with the Wick­low Man.


On Satur­day 18 Oc­to­ber the Na­tional Park staff will have tele­scopes set up be­tween 11am and 4 pm with guides on hand to dis­cuss the deer and their ecol­ogy.

Di­rec­tions to the tele­scopes can be got at the In­for­ma­tion Of­fice - the path will be along one of the way-marked routes in the val­ley of Glendalough. Book­ing is not re­quired.

Kicks takes place on a Tues­day and Fri­day night in the Brock­agh Cen­tre from 8.30 p.m. to 9.15 p.m.

Kicks com­bines self-de­fence, dance and box­er­cise and is a fun way to keep fit, lose weight and be­come strong.

The mo­bile li­brary will be in Laragh from 10 am to noon on Thurs­day Oc­to­ber 9.


Spon­sored Horse Ride and Walk. Satur­day 11th Oc­to­ber. Start­ing at Round­wood. Drive through the vil­lage to­wards Glendalough and it will be sign­posted. Regis­tra­tion at 10.30 am.

Ride: Suit­able groups with a leader for each group. Ap­prox 2 to 3 hours. Walk: ap­prox 2 and half hours. Spon­sor­ship: Please use the card pro­vided and present it at the start.

At regis­tra­tion each par­tic­i­pant will be given a voucher for soup and sand­wiches, tea and cof­fee will be avail­able af­ter the ride/walk in the Vartry House, Round­wood.

All money col­lected will be di­vided jointly be­tween the Di­a­betes Fed­er­a­tion and the Kil­macanogue Horse Show who sup­port the Wick­low Hospice, New­court Spe­cial School, ‘Chara­banc’ En­niskerry car­ing re­source for the el­derly and St. Mo­chonogue’s Church Restora­tion Fund.

Our Car­diac First Re­spon­ders Group in Laragh are looking for some more vol­un­teers to join their group to con­tinue to as­sist the am­bu­lance ser­vice within our com­mu­nity.

At present, we have six mem­bers and ideally we would like to have 10 mem­bers on our rota in or­der to con­tinue to sup­ply a 24-7 cov­er­age. Any­one in­ter­ested should ei­ther ring Sheila on 087 2121522 or speak to Frank Evans for more in­for­ma­tion.

We would like to take this op­por­tu­nity of thank­ing both Eileen and Gerry Pat­ter­son, who have re­tired from our group re­cently, and we wish them the best of luck and a happy re­tire­ment! Eileen and Gerry have been mem­bers of our group since our com­mence­ment in Fe­bru­ary 2005 and Gerry has been our co-or­di­na­tor. They will be missed.

Since we be­gan this project in Laragh three and half years ago, we have had ap­prox 50 call outs and our re­sponse time is within 5 min­utes of re­ceiv­ing the call from the am­bu­lance ser­vice. It is of great ben­e­fit to our com­mu­nity to have this ser­vice and we would ap­pre­ci­ate more vol­un­teers to con­tinue.


Danella Byrne and her fam­ily and friends are or­gan­is­ing a Ben­e­fit Night (in mem­ory of Danella’s sis­ter, Daphne Jack­son) to raise much-needed funds to sup­port the work of Black­rock Hospice.

It will take place in the Woodenbridge Ho­tel on Satur­day 1st Novem­ber at 8 pm; ad­mis­sion is €5. En­ter­tain­ment on the night will in­clude mu­sic by Ab­hainn Dubh, leg-wax­ing and head­shav­ing fundrais­ers, a mon­ster raf­fle (BBQ, mo­bile phone, DVD player) and much more.

Raf­fle tick­ets are cur­rently on sale; prizes in­clude ride-on lawnmower, wash­ing ma­chine, lat­est Nin­tendo DS.
