Wicklow 41, Enniscorthy 22: Wicklow entertained Enniscorthy at Ashtown Lane on Sunday in the South East League and won an interesting game by seven tries to three. Wicklow dominated the first half scoring six tries, through Shaun O’Brien (3), Niall Hardy, Charlie Butterworth and John Jenkinson.

Simon Breen converted two. Wicklow forwards played particularly well in the loose, okay in the line outs and poor in the scrums. Killian O’Mahoney had a very good all round game.

In the second half Wicklow seemed to loose concentration and let Enniscorthy back into the game.

The Wexford men had a good scrum and some speedy backs and used them to good effect scoring three tries for their efforts. Despite losing the momentum of the game for a while it was good to see Wicklow regain control and score a nice try when they drove a maul from a line out inside the Enniscorthy 22 and Dennis Higgins sent Ben Armstrong over in the corner. Shaun O’Brien kicked the conversion from the side line.

This was not a vintage performance from this Wicklow side. They must improve their defence and their scrummaging if they are to lead the charge in the Leinster League this year which starts next week at home to Wicklow’s bogey team, Wexford, kick off 12.00 noon at Ashtown Lane.
