Longford 19, Rathdrum Dev 12: Rathdrum’s Development Team also made the long trip to Longford on Sunday and will be bitterly disappointed to not come away with a win.

The game started with Longford taking the lead via two penalties to leave the score 6 –0. This was the signal for Rathdrum to take control of the game.

With Shane O’Neill and Man of the Match, Anthony Byrne forming an exciting half back pairing, the rest of the back line of Vinnie Kingston, David Phelan, Cathal Doyle and Steven Langdon began to really find their feet.

After one Rathdrum move saw the ball move through over 6 phases, Rathdrum’s Anthony Byrne finally crossed the for the away teams first points. This was converted to leave the away team leading 76. Longford struck back immediately with another penalty to leave the score 9-7 coming into the last few minutes of the first half.

Rathdrum will feel aggrieved that a seemingly perfect try by prop, Rob Conratty was disallowed after some great play by the Rathdrum forwards namely Morvin Katene and Barry O’Neill.

The second half kicked off with Longford immediately kicking another penalty to leave the score 12-7. Rathdrum responded with a cracking try scored by winger, Cathal Doyle to leave the score 12 all with about 20 minutes to go. Unfortunately Rathdrum where reduced to 13 men at this stage due to an injury to Donal Phelan and the yellow carding of full back Vinnie Kingston. Longford took this opportunity to score a converted try to finish the game 19-12 to the home team.
