Town hit five past St. James Gate

Ark­low Town 5, St. James Gate 1: Ark­low Town made light work of the St. James’ Gate chal­lenge in their FAI In­ter­me­di­ate Cup first round clash at Bridgewater Cen­tre Park on Fri­day last.

Town made an im­me­di­ate im­pact with Chris Burgess driv­ing a low shot into the bot­tom cor­ner of Gate’s net in the third minute.

The home side re­tained pos­ses­sion for most of the first half, prob­ing for fur­ther goals. Wil­lie Ka­vanagh dou­bled Ark­low’s lead mid­way through the half with a com­posed fin­ish from close range.

Kenny Keogh headed home a third for Town min­utes later af­ter some fine play on the left flank in­volv­ing Burgess, Ka­vanagh and John Fen­nell.

The home side were caught nap­ping at the back early into the sec­ond half how­ever, con­ced­ing a sloppy goal, giv­ing Gate a glim­mer of hope.

How­ever, Chris Far­rell en­sured Ark­low Town’s name would be in the draw for the next round with a fourth goal.

Near the end Wil­lie Ka­vanagh capped a fine evening when scor­ing his sec­ond and Town’s fifth.
