Town hit five past St. James Gate
Arklow Town 5, St. James Gate 1: Arklow Town made light work of the St. James’ Gate challenge in their FAI Intermediate Cup first round clash at Bridgewater Centre Park on Friday last.
Town made an immediate impact with Chris Burgess driving a low shot into the bottom corner of Gate’s net in the third minute.
The home side retained possession for most of the first half, probing for further goals. Willie Kavanagh doubled Arklow’s lead midway through the half with a composed finish from close range.
Kenny Keogh headed home a third for Town minutes later after some fine play on the left flank involving Burgess, Kavanagh and John Fennell.
The home side were caught napping at the back early into the second half however, conceding a sloppy goal, giving Gate a glimmer of hope.
However, Chris Farrell ensured Arklow Town’s name would be in the draw for the next round with a fourth goal.
Near the end Willie Kavanagh capped a fine evening when scoring his second and Town’s fifth.
