Great display by AGB girls
A BRILLIANT squad of U-14 girls from Arklow won the Kilmacud Crokes AllIreland sevens football competition recently.
Thirty-two teams from all over Ireland took part in the event, now in its fifth year, and Arklow-Geraldines-Ballymoney ladies came through their seven games unbeaten to claim the cup. AGB, who won the Leinster Feile division one and the All-Ireland Feile division three this year as well as the county championship title, amassed the staggering total of 58 goals and 53 points on their way to this sevens success, with Keyleigh Crammond emerging as their top scorer with 30 goals to her credit.
In the cup final, AGB beat Naomh Pol from Antrim by a whopping 6-18 to 3- 3, while they also coasted through the semi-final where they had an easy 8-5 to 2-4 win over SalthillKnocknacarra from Galway.
AGB only started a juvenile section in the club in 2004; won the U-12 county title in 2005, and U-14s titles in 2006 and 2007.
The plate competition was won by Kinsale from Cork who beat Old Castle from Meath in the final. The girls paraded the cup in a cavalcade after their arrival back in Arklow and finished off celebrating their win at the Arklow Bay Hotel.
The sevens final was attended by Geraldine Giles, who is the National President of Cumann Peil Gael na mBan and local councillor Pat Fitzgerald was also in attendance.
