Great dis­play by AGB girls

A BRIL­LIANT squad of U-14 girls from Ark­low won the Kil­macud Crokes Al­lIre­land sev­ens foot­ball com­pe­ti­tion re­cently.

Thirty-two teams from all over Ire­land took part in the event, now in its fifth year, and Ark­low-Geraldines-Bal­ly­money ladies came through their seven games un­beaten to claim the cup. AGB, who won the Le­in­ster Feile divi­sion one and the All-Ire­land Feile divi­sion three this year as well as the county cham­pi­onship ti­tle, amassed the stag­ger­ing to­tal of 58 goals and 53 points on their way to this sev­ens suc­cess, with Keyleigh Cram­mond emerg­ing as their top scorer with 30 goals to her credit.

In the cup fi­nal, AGB beat Naomh Pol from Antrim by a whop­ping 6-18 to 3- 3, while they also coasted through the semi-fi­nal where they had an easy 8-5 to 2-4 win over SalthillKnock­nacarra from Gal­way.

AGB only started a ju­ve­nile sec­tion in the club in 2004; won the U-12 county ti­tle in 2005, and U-14s ti­tles in 2006 and 2007.

The plate com­pe­ti­tion was won by Kin­sale from Cork who beat Old Cas­tle from Meath in the fi­nal. The girls pa­raded the cup in a cav­al­cade af­ter their ar­rival back in Ark­low and fin­ished off cel­e­brat­ing their win at the Ark­low Bay Ho­tel.

The sev­ens fi­nal was at­tended by Geral­dine Giles, who is the Na­tional Pres­i­dent of Cu­mann Peil Gael na mBan and lo­cal coun­cil­lor Pat Fitzger­ald was also in at­ten­dance.
