Pres alert as fire erupts in toi­lets

HUN­DREDS of stu­dents of Pre­sen­ta­tion Col­lege Bray were evac­u­ated from the school last Fri­day when a fire broke out for the sec­ond time in the space of a year.

A mem­ber of staff said the blaze had bro­ken out in one of the school bath­rooms.

With the fire alarms sound­ing, the stu­dents were evac­u­ated from the school, con­gre­gat­ing out­side as they waited for the fire bri­gade to ar­rive. No-one was hurt. The staff mem­ber said the fire be­gan at around 11.30 a.m. and was quickly brought un­der con­trol.

The blaze fol­lows one in Fe­bru­ary, which also be­gan in a toi­let cu­bi­cle, in which chok­ing black smoke bil­lowed along an ad­join­ing corridor.

One of the stu­dents Old­court na­tive Bren­dan O’Neill was hailed the hero of the Fe­bru­ary fire af­ter risk­ing his life to help his friend Lee Bran­don, who was on crutches, to safety from the top of the build­ing.

The ex­act cause of the lat­est fire is as yet un­known. Nei­ther of the fires caused any se­ri­ous dam­age.
