SUPPORT for Barak Obama may be on the increase over in the USA but he isn’t exactly short of Wicklow friends either.

Over 100 US citizens attended a fundraising event in Dublin on Sunday afternoon hosted by Massachusetts native Moira Shipsey at her Dalkey home.

Rebecca Miller, who lives in Annamoe with her husband Daniel Day Lewis and their two sons, spoke openly during the fundraiser about her hopes for the next US elections. she also made it abundantly clear that she wasn’t any fan of current President George W. Bush.

‘I am hopeful but very nervous at the same time,’ she said.

‘We need to get our country back and reclaim patriotism for ourselves. McCain and Palin represent our more primitive self as a nation, one that is afraid of the future and afraid of change. We need to elect a man who is going to lead us forward instead.’

She also pledged her fourth donation to the Obama campaign, but remained tight lipped over the exact amount contributed.
