No compensation for flood victims

Bray People - - Bray People -

THERE will be no compensation other than that from the Supplementary Welfare Allowance Scheme made available for the victims of recent flash flooding in Bray, in particular tenants of the council in Oldcourt.

Cllr. John Byrne said that the people were after losing a lot and the least the Government could do is ’rally round and help’.

He added that the sums of money involved are not vast and that there could otherwise be a court case.

The Town Clerk read out a letter responding to a request for compensation explaining that people on low incomes could look to the local HSE for help.

Housing officer Triona Irving said that in terms of damage to the houses in Oldcourt, she suspected that the plasterboard would come under structural damage so would look in to whether tenants would be entitled to have the damage fixed by the council.
