Students take part in ‘Leave no Trace’
FORTY Transition Year students from eight secondary schools throughout County Wicklow took part in an education programme in Glendalough promoting the responsible use of the outdoors.
Leave No Trace day on Wednesday was organised by the Wicklow Uplands Council and Wicklow Mountains National Park Education Centre.
The awareness day gave the students an understanding of the impact people can have on the environment.
The seven Leave No Trace principles are: Plan Ahead and Prepare; Be Considerate of Others; Respect Farm Animals and Wildlife; Travel and Camp on Durable Ground; Leave What you Find; Dispose of Waste Properly and Minimise the Effects of Fire.
The schools involved were St. Mary’s College, Arklow C.B.S., Avondale CC, Dominican College, St. David’s SS, Colaíste Raithín, St. Thomas’ CC and St. Kilian’s CS.
