Stu­dents take part in ‘Leave no Trace’

FORTY Tran­si­tion Year stu­dents from eight secondary schools through­out County Wick­low took part in an ed­u­ca­tion pro­gramme in Glendalough pro­mot­ing the re­spon­si­ble use of the out­doors.

Leave No Trace day on Wed­nes­day was or­gan­ised by the Wick­low Up­lands Coun­cil and Wick­low Moun­tains Na­tional Park Ed­u­ca­tion Cen­tre.

The aware­ness day gave the stu­dents an un­der­stand­ing of the im­pact peo­ple can have on the en­vi­ron­ment.

The seven Leave No Trace prin­ci­ples are: Plan Ahead and Pre­pare; Be Con­sid­er­ate of Oth­ers; Re­spect Farm An­i­mals and Wildlife; Travel and Camp on Durable Ground; Leave What you Find; Dis­pose of Waste Prop­erly and Min­imise the Ef­fects of Fire.

The schools in­volved were St. Mary’s Col­lege, Ark­low C.B.S., Avon­dale CC, Do­mini­can Col­lege, St. David’s SS, Co­laíste Raithín, St. Thomas’ CC and St. Kilian’s CS.
