The Junior B team reached the County final on Saturday last with a great win over St. Pats in the semifinal replay in An Tochar.
This was a closely contested and exciting match, and Newtown led 0-07 to 0-05 at half time. Newtown dominated the second half and held St. Pats scoreless until the 20th minute. While St. Pats did stage a late rally, Newtown never looked to be in any danger of losing this match, and kept their concentration going roght to the final whistle.
The final score was 0-13 to 0-09. Newtown will now face An Tochar in the final. Check fixtures column for details. Newtown scores came from David Healy 0-05, Dessie Waters 0-03, Glen McKenna 0-02, Anthony Duffy, Roy Carthy and Terry Murphy 0-01 each. Well done lads.

NEWTOWN UNITED FC
Only our first team saw action last weekend as they faced the daunting task of travelling away in the F.A.I. Junior cup to take on one of the competitions favourite’s Evergreen F. C. from Kilkenny.
The lads on duty gave their all but had no answer to the opposition’s power and experience. Away from the pitch we must send congratulations to club stalwart Gary Kelly who celebrated his 40th birthday with family and friends in the Greystones golf club last Saturday night.
A good night was had by all although Gary did have to curtail his celebrations as he was off with the first team to Kilkenny at 8.30 pm the next morning. He did however assure everyone that celebrations would resume as soon as he arrived back home. Well done Gary!
Also everyone in Newtown United F.C. would like to wish good luck to the GAA Junior ‘B’ team in their final on Saturday evening against An Tochar

There were five matches down for decision for our teams last weekend and out of these games we recorded four wins and only one defeat. Both our under 8 teams continue to bang out the results, with two more victories achieved.
Our ‘A’ team defeated Wicklow Town 9-2 at home. In a very good team display the scorers were Adam Heffernan with 4, Craig McCabe notched 3 and Conor O’Toole-Odlum scored twice. Special mention to Newtown goalkeeper Lee Turner who made an excellent penalty save during the game.
The ‘B’ team won at home to Avonmore by the odd goal in five. Melanie Clarke scored twice and Timothy Hamilton also scored. Best for Newtown were Ryan Smillie & Ben Moran.
The Under 9’s lost a tight game away to Arklow Town 1-nil. Best for the 9’s were Corey Sullivan, Dion Doyle and Conor Doyle. Good win for our Under 11’s at home to Arklow Town on a 4-2 scoreline. Dillon Carthy gave Newtown the lead in the first half but the visitors edged in front 2-1 after 10 minutes of the second half.
Midway through the half Newtown was awarded a penalty and Keith Dalton dispatched the ball to the net to level the scores. Both Dalton and Carthy scored again to wrap up the three points.
In fairness the whole team played well especially Sean Carthy, Robert Greenan & Ross Davis.
The Under 12’s had a narrow 1-nil win at home to Wicklow Rovers courtesy of a Ciaran Doherty goal. Best were Jamie Keddy, Lydia SinnottElliott & Chantelle Owens.
Unfortunately we have had to withdraw our Under 16’s from the League due to injuries and a lack of commitment from some players with regards training.
Excellent turnout for our academy players as they travelled to Glencormac for a practise match and avery exciting game ended 4-3 in favour of the Newtown boys & girls. With the numbers increasing by the week we are hoping to enlist a couple of adults to help Glenn and Damien with the coaching.

Just a reminder to all players and supporters to please bring their rubbish I.e. empty bottles etc. home with them as leaving these items on the side of the playing pitch is totally unacceptable. People in the club have enough to do without clearing up other people’s laziness. Thank you!
Three of our members will be celebrating their birthdays in the coming week and they are: Hollie Murphy from the Under 10’s who celebrated with a girls only party last Saturday night in the Community Centre; Under 11’s captain marvel Ross Davis and last but not least the Under 8B’s co-manager Kyle Martin who certainly needs some cheering up at the moment as his beloved Spurs stumble from one disaster to another at the moment! Happy birthday one and all from everyone in Newtown Juniors F.C.
