First Wicklow Cup triumph for Bray GC’s junior squad
AFTER 20 long years of trying, Bray Golf Club juniors have won the Wicklow Cup.
The competition was established in 1988 and the trophy is competed for over the summer season by Delgany, Greystones, Old Conna, Woodbrook, Charlesland and Bray.
After halving their first match away to Charlesland, Bray then defeated Old Conna on their course by a 3/2 margain. The team’s next outing resulted in a narrow defeat at Woodbrook.
That left two home matches against Delgany and Greystones which were won 3.5/1.5 and 4/1 respectively.
The Bray total of three wins and a draw was matched by Greystones. However, Bray took the Trophy as they had amassed 15 points in their matches, against Greystone’s 12.5.
The squad was managed by Denis Sherlock, Ray Glynn and Eoghan Rogers.
Great credit is due to club professional, Ciaran Carroll, assisted by Paul McDaid, who coached the panel over the course of the campaign.
Members of the panel were: Brian Carroll, John Conroy, Ashley Culliton, Alex Doyle, Josh Glynn, Andrew Kealy, Andrew Larrigan, Mike Lee, Katie Nicholson, Ross Nicholson, Emma O’Brien, Adam O’Flynn, Nick O’Loughlin, Ryan O’Loughlin, Mike Quinn, Jonathan Roche, Shane Tierney and Tommy Walker (Captain).
