Great games as racquetball season gets under way
THE 2008/2009 Racquetball season began this year with a Fun Doubles competition for men, women and juniors in the Arklow Sports and Leisure centre.
This friendly competition pairs the club’s open players with lower grade players to play off in a round robin format. The opposing open players play the first game, the partners play the second game and the third game is a game of doubles.
There was a great atmosphere on the day, with some great matches being played. The overall winners in the Mens’ event were Brian Byrne and Paddy Dodd, and the runners up were Adam Neary and Daniel Smale. In the Ladies’ event Anita Byrne and Rachel Byrne won and Lauren Breen and Orla Byrne were second. A great day was had by with the Arklow club providing refreshments for players and spectators throughout the day.
Junior coaching is back on every Saturday from 10 30 am til 1 pm. Club juniors remember to bring your racquets, gloves and protective eye-guards. Any new juniors ( minimum age of 8) wanting to join our junior squad and take part in coaching every Saturday can come along and use the club equipment.
A fundraising table quiz for the Arklow Racquetball Club will be held in The Old Ship on Thursday, October 16 at 8.30pm. It costs ¤20 per table of four and there will be prizes for first and second place. A raffle will also be held on the night with plenty of prizes.
The All-Ireland Team Club Championships will be held in Kingscourt, Cavan on November 15 and 16. There are several divisions in this competition, Novice, Intermediate and Open for both Men and Women, and junior divisions for boys and girls. Anyone interested in representing the Arklow club at this event can put there names on the entry poster in the Sports Centre.
The Arklow club won both the Men’s and Women’s Open events last year, and were second in the Intermediate and hope to do even better this year.
