Great win for Rathdrum Ladies
Cill Dara 5, Rathdrum 22: The Rathdrum Women’s rugby team travelled to Cill Dara on Saturday for the third leg of their Leinster Round Robin.
The first twenty minutes were a very evenly matched affair. But eventually Rathdrum got the upper hand and used the boot of Mo Dowling to great effect, keeping the home side pinned in their own half. From a Cill Dara lineout near the home sides try line, the Rathdrum forwards burst through the line, pressurising the outhalf who dropped the pass and allowed Player of the Day, Ellen Fox to touchdown for Rathdrum’s first try.
Thirty-two minutes into the first half, after Dowling probing deep into the home sides half, Ellen Fox ripped Cill Dara ball from the ensuing maul and got it to Tammy Breen who passed to Ciara Healy before being hauled down, Ciara burst over for Rathdrum’s second try.
Fifteen minutes into the second half, Rathdrum once again spread the ball wide across the field to winger Tammy Breen who burned her opposite number and full back to score in the corner.
Mo Dowling put in a wiper kick from within her half which the Cill Dara full back fumbled allowing Tammy Breen to pick and offload to Mo who ran under the posts and converted her own try. The home side drove over the line for their first points in the dying minutes of the game. Rathdrum won 22-5.
