Arklow U-14s on top
Kilkenny U-14s 28, Arklow U-14s 31: Arklow took the long road to Kilkenny on Saturday to do battle with Kilkenny. And battle they did.
After ten minutes Arklow made the breakthrough. Quick rucked ball on the half way line the ball was spread wide to Andrew Doran who out sprinted the defence to score under the posts. From the kick-off Arklow attacked again and a good break by Mason Middleton put Andrew Doran in the clear and score. Arklow led by 12 points after 20 minutes.
Kilkenny attacked Arklow and scored a try, which was converted, after good forward work. Arklow again stepped up the attack after winning a line out Michael O Scannaill fed the back line and again put Andrew Doran in the corner. Jamie was just short with the conversion.
Kilkenny went straight into attack mode again and due to slack tackling by the Arklow backs let Kilkenny second row in for a try which was converted. Arklow were in front by just three points at half-time.
The second half began with Arklow on the attack. After a quick break by scrum-half Michael O Scannaill again fed Andrew Doran who sprinted in under the posts for a converted try.
From the ensuing kick-off Arklow knocked on and good refereeing allowed advantage and Kilkenny scored under the posts for another converted try.
From a quick tap penalty, Arklow‘s Tom Scarfe broke through the Kilkenny line to moved the ball on to who else but Andrew Doran and again he placed the ball under the posts. The conversion eased the pressure on Arklow who now led 31-28.
