Wick­low Town knock lo­cal ri­vals out of cup

Wick­low Rovers 1, Wick­low Town A 2: It was Town and not Rovers who emerged vic­to­ri­ous in this Wick­low derby with a place in the third round of the FAI Ju­nior Cup at stake.

Wick­low Rovers old ghosts came back to haunt them as Town’s scor­ers were part of the team that got to the Wick­low Cup fi­nal last year.

BA Franey got his first ever Town goal and for­mer Bray Wan­der­ers man Mau­rice Dunne scored a penalty to send their side through while Jim Fo­ley net­ted for the hosts. Spa United 2, St. An­thony’s A 1: Spa United proved just a lit­tle bit too hot for St. An­thony’s last Sun­day as the Kil­coole side ex­ited the FAI Ju­nior Cup. Martin Wil­liams net­ted for the vis­i­tors but it proved it wasn’t enough and it is Spa United who march on. Forth Rangers 2, Glen­view FC 3: Glen­view put their fal­ter­ing start to the league be­hind them to ad­vance to the third round of the FAI Ju­nior Cup. The Bray side faced a dif­fi­cult trip to Forth Rangers but did Wick­low proud by re­turn­ing home with a 3- 2 victory. They found them­selves 1-0 down but fought back, they went 2-1 down and again fought back be­fore in the 93rd minute sealed a dra­matic win against the Kilkenny side. Glen­view’s goals came cour­tesy of Jack Dou­glas, Mark Mahon and Justin Melia. Ev­er­green FC 6, New­town United A 0: New­town United were al­ways go­ing to be up against it as they came up against one of the strong­est sides in the com­pe­ti­tion and there was to be no fairy­tale for the Wick­low team.
