JUNIOR ‘B’ FOOTBALL Newtown 0-13; St. Patrick’s 0-9: Two teams liberally sprinkled with great players of the past met in the second semi-final of the Phillip Doyle Junior ‘B’ Football Championship at Roundwood on Saturday.

This was a close battle for much of the way. Newtown held a slight edge in the first half and good points by veteran full forward ‘Titch’ Healy and Dessie Waters had them in the lead.

Coming up to half time St Patrick’s missed a great chance of a goal that would have put them in front. Instead it was Newtown that went in leading by 0-7 to 0-5 at half time.

It remained close enough throughout the second half but it was the experience of players like ‘Titch’ Healy Dessie Waters and Anthony Duffy that kept Newtown in front.

St. Patrick’s brought on players like Gary Deehan, Matthew Carroll and Eddie King in a bid to turned the tide but it was not enough.

Newtown now meet neighbours An Tochar in what should be a great final.
