Sad death of Fine Gael and GAA great
FORMER Wicklow footballing great, long-time Fine Gael party member and ex-councillor Pascal Deering has died. Pascal, passed away yesterday (Tuesday). He was in his 70s.
He belonged to the well known Deering family of Dunlavin and was the son of Mark Deering, a Fine Gael TD and former Irish rugby international.
Pascal was an accomplished football player, and represented Wicklow at inter-county level on many occasions. He was also an elected member of Wicklow County Council.
In a tribute to his friend, Deputy Billy Timmins said, ‘it was with great regret I heard of his passing. Over the last few weeks we knew he was gravely ill.
‘My sympathies are with his loving wife and ever-present companion Una, his son Mark, daughter Una and all the Deering and Mahon families.
‘Pascal was a quintessential Wicklow man and had a great love of all sports.
He was an avid golfer and a football great for Wicklow. Everyone who knew him regarded him with deep affection and their lives will be that much sadder from his passing.’
